Spinning Reels was a magzine published by the Mills Novelty Company of Chicago to "create and maintain a close, friendly relationship with our business friends and acquaintances in the coin machine world." The flag in the picture with Barbara was presented to the Mills company by the Treasury Department for the company's 95% participation in the Defense Bond payroll allotment plan. "It was the first Minute Man Flag to fly in Chicago and the third in the country." In February 1942, a smiling headshot picture of Barbara appeared in the newspapers with the caption: "GOOD CHOICE -- It didn't take the Art Directors club of Chicago long to decide that dark-eyed Barbara Hall, a professional model, deserved 'Miss Animation' title in a Chicago contest." Yes, they spelled her name wrong. But it was Barbara, and she looked really great.
